It's uncomfortable to acknowledge how much is out of our control, so bs like that is popular

Seems like it's more uncomfortable for them to acknowledge how much is in their control.

Yeah, people's self control. It's not even a matter of unhealthy food being cheap, these people just waste money on eating out using apps and stock up on high sugar high fat snacks and drinks.

Yeah I got some McSlop for the first time in like 5 years because I was working late. Shit's like $15 now.

lmao what

I get mcslop on occasion and it's usually like $7 for a quite filling meal (~900 calories). I tend to get the chicken sandwiches too which are comparatively "low-calorie" (compared to the beef options).

I'd rather buy booze for $15. Probably the same amount of calories as well.

I should have just bought a 40 of OE800 and would have came out on top in all metrics

if people's self-control are increasingly going out of control, is it really self-control? :marseylaying:

The difference in obesity between 1980 and now is like 200 calories a day. Nothing has changed, people are just eating more and even more sedentary.

how nice it must be to have such a simplified view of the world :marseysigh:

This point of view on life is so insane to me. Especially from the group that regularly touts going to therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy theories teach you that you are in control and reframing things will make you mentally healthier.

But no—being big fat, lazy eternal victims is the better way to live. Congratulations on your choices, Brapala.

They don't go to therapy for self-improvement. They go for validation and to vent. They won't actually do the stuff that is supposed to make them better. Like going to the doctor for a back injury and being prescribed painkillers and physio but only taking the painkillers and ignoring the physio.

Ideal therapy should be temporary and not a lifelong thing, which is a controversial take for all the munchies and spoonies on reddit

Same thing with SSRI's too. I was given them by my doctor back when work was too stressful. Both the doctor and therapist was like "they're not good to be on long term, you should make some lifestyle changes." I did and lo and behold it worked. A good therapist should always be looking to "break up with you" because you no longer need their help. But to the redditor, suggesting that consuming 4000 calories of refined sugar and fat/day and not moving is unhealthy and making them depressed is tantamount to genocide. It's easier to spend $100/week to some hackfraud who'll just validate them into not changing a darn thing.

Yeah SSRIs and similar are designed to give you some breathing room so you can dig yourself out of whatever depressive hole you fell into. But you still have to dig yourself out, and once you do, you can stop taking them.

Nowadays they're just a permanent thing. I sometimes wonder why. The obvious answer is kickbacks from pharma companies but tbh I don't think the doctors necessarily get huge kickbacks for it. I think a big part is just doctors being lazy fricks. It's easier to just write a script than convince a patient to make lifestyle changes. Plus it means they don't need to argue with their patient about anything since they're doing what the patient wants.

Ironically that's just taking medicine back to the early modern age when doctors were more like technical assistants and patients were expected to diagnose themselves to give instructions to the doctor on what to do.

Why would a therapist discharge someone who pays them $300/hr?

Jump in the discussion.

also therapists are fricking kinda incentivized not to fix your mental health bc then you wont tneed to pay them $100/hr anymore

That argument falls apart in health care systems where there are not enough therapists and waiting times are month long.

the fricking therapists who market to neurotic white womcn arent the fricking same as the fricking therapists treating people who are fricking required to see a fricking therapist.

>cognitive behavioral therapy

Oh no no no, they aren't going to therapists that use methods intended to fix problems; they go to therapists that do the psychology equivalent of a friend who listens to you and occasionally says, "darn, that's crazy."

If you've ever tried therapy you'd realize it's all a bunch of millenial foids who don't want you to improve but rather accept your shortcomings and come back every week indefinitely. I think cognitive behavioral therapy has been out of vogue for over a decade, you'd have to find some boomer moid therapist if you want to actually try to improve yourself.

lol oh that's funny. Do they base therapy on anything these days or just yass queening?

I tried it for a few months to kick my boozing / weed smoking habits and I even worked with a therapist who specialized in substance abuse and she literally never once did anything to try to get me to stop but rather took the harm reduction approach "maybe you shouldn't feel so bad about it, now let's talk about how evil your parents are…" lol it's such a scam it just made me feel a thousand times worse about my life. They just want to mess you up further so that you're stuck with them for life talking about everything bad that's ever happened to you. When I finally said this isn't working for me I'm not coming back next week she was like "no you need to keep doing therapy we're just getting started this takes a long time, I'm scheduling next weeks appointment" which I didn't show up to.

Jesus Christ that is awful. I keep meaning to read Abigail Shrier's new book "Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up." I liked her in interviews and I like anything that will shit on r-slurs. The focus is on how some therapists, busy body teachers, and parents are fricking kids up and make them less resilient, whiny kitties. But she also talked about how a bad therapist can really set you back and frick you up

Jump in the discussion.

That's because they shop therapists until they find one who just validates them to make them feel good, then the therapist cashes the check.

There are good therapists, but they're supposed to challenge you to be better by understanding yourself, not validate your behavior

The issue is really insurance companies just paying for this shit, but that goes back to employers who put pressure on them to cover "mental health"
