Orange chicken was a bit too floor cleaner-y so I added peach jam to jive with the bitter orange - rice drenched with soy sauce (not present) balanced the sweet

I got this orange chicken last night and the bitter orange was overpowering. I stuck it in the fridge, when I had some for breakfast the orange flavor had mellowed out but I still wanted to test the flavors.

I added maybe four tablespoons of peach jam to half a container of orange chicken. Definitely sweet, but there are way of balancing that. Next time I order it I'll try it hot with a few different saucers. I'm thinking a spicy kimchi sauce, as would a jalapeño jelly. Thoughts?

Discussion ideas:

I like to make broccoli when I get Chinese delivery, what are your go to side dishes?

Which beers do you like with Chinese food? I like Corona and Sapporo, although if I do that spicy kimchi I'll try to find Kloud.

Add some food grade lye to it. The floor cleaner taste is citric acid, adding lye will turn it into sodium citrate which is less overpowering

Orange chicken = sweet and sour chicken?

Maybe try some Tsingtao beer to go with it

Tsingtao with a little bit of lime or lemon is a great hot day/evening beer but I like something a touch heavier with American Chinese delivery. What are some good cheap Singaporean beers, if they let you have alcohol?

Tiger beer is probably our national beer and I've seen it in many places around the world so give it a try!

if they let you have alcohol?

Yeah they "let" us have alcohol but it's taxed rather heavily :marseypoor: A carton of Tiger beer would cost 33 USD at the supermarket

See if the place offers sweet and sour sauce, it's great for adding sweetness to some of the heavier dishes in Cantonese cuisine. However I've never had my Chinese food taste like a cleaner lol, is it the only Chinese restaurant near you?

I like most of their other dishes, I don't usually get orange chicken so I'll still order most of my food from them.

Ah fair. Some Chinese restaurants near me have dishes they just aren't good at. One has great entrees but trash rice, and another has awesome rice but mediocre chicken dishes.

>I got this orange chicken last night and the orange had an overpowering floor cleaner flavor.

Next time that happens, don't eat it. They didn't wash their pots properly and it still had dish soap in it.

The orange cleaner kind of overpowering orange, like they added too much orange oil.
