This is genuinely one of the most tone deaf, offensive things I have ever seen put to print.

"Hello, poors! We know that times are tough if you're not an educated journ*list like us who knows how to grift your tax dollars into our bank accounts. So, we've prepared a set of dehumanizing options to set at your dinner table this holiday season to further remind you of the miserable scarcity which now defines your lives as a result of government policy we entirely support! You're welcome!"

Like do they really think people don't have butter or potatoes? These are fricking staple foods! I suppose if you doordash every meal it might be difficult to remember what a working household actually keeps stocked. It's like an entire newsroom of Lucille Bluths lecturing their poor dumb inferiors on how to save their few precious kopeks.

Jesus this made me upset, I'm going to go spend time with my family. I might hate them, but at least it's not as much as these people hate the average American.

In their defense, at this point NPRs target audience is the kind of people that tightening their belt means taking one less vacation this year and cooks near ready made meals. Not people who know how to stretch a meal. They don't seem to even consider a turkey will likely feed everyone on Thanksgiving, provide at least 3 leftover meals, and like 4-5 gallons of stock.
