Found this paper, though it's quite old (2008) regarding salmonella in Japan.
"3793 cases in 2004" of salmonella. In 2005 Japan had a pop of 127m.
Apparently salmonella is basically a non-issue in Japan (or was at that time). Especially when you consider that an infection is most often harmless. Lethality is 0.1% (according to the German RKI), so you had 4 dead people in Japan in 2004.
