I've cooked pigs before, I use charcoal for that. I'm not smoking ribs for eight hours on charcoal.

There are some pretty serious tradeoffs though, like the wind just ruining everything for example.

I like the food that comes out of it, and I like that you can take the top off it and just use it like a regular charcoal grill, but the downside is that in any kind of inclement weather, it's a massive pain in the butt. Rain and wind make it completely unpredictable. Cold weather is fine though, at least, you just need more charcoal.

I've done it but it's not really smoking I guess. I throw a bunch of chips in with the bricks.

It honestly doesn't take that much smoke to get a smoke ring. I'm sure you could get enough smoke in there from wet chips to complete whatever cooking has to happen.
