I love chick fil a but waffle fries are massively overrated. I like tots but as far as fries go its crinkle > straight, everything else is inferior. Curly is fine i guess but those are just curved straight fries

You shouldnt be. Ive made my own, straight cut blanch then refrigerate in water til the next day. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika. Pretty good shit. Still not as good as Milo's crinkle cuts. Fries are kinda shit anyway, hash browns are the way to go.

If you cant make homemade better than crinkle you really gotta reevaluate :marseyropeyourself:

I think curly has the same advantage of higher crispy surface area, just like crinkle. Am I wrong though?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Curly is almost always seasoned which is the real advantage, people suck at using spices

Crispiness is entirely a function of technique, given i assume dramatards are like redditors and can barely boil water but you can make any and all fries perfectly crispy if youre not :marseygigaretard:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Not sure tbh. I dont think itd have more surface area than a straight fry? The curls tend to stick together which messes them up. Arbys fries are amazing when theyre done right, they seem prone to being undercooked tho and to me offer little advantage over straight cut. Ive never made them myself though. I always get crinkle cut frozen fries, if im making them myslef i do straight and dont peel them cause im lazy.

I used to think waffle fries were unique to Chick-fil-A, as in they were patented or something, when I was a teen :marseygigaretard:

Now I occasionally buy them by the bag since the crispiness vs softness is best waffled imo

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I think they did popularize them, i dont remember them being in stores until fairly recently. Theyre good very fresh but get kinda soggy way faster than other varieties

Fr? Idk I feel like they’re the best fries.

If I’m on a road trip and looking for something good but not too “heavy” (yes it’s 420 kcal, I mean it’s not a greasy burger it’s starch) I go for an order of them.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Theyre more "healthy" than other fries for sure, and also good fresh. They just suck if you arent eating them straight away imo, worse than other types. Also not good if you get unlucky and they arent fresh

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I feel like that goes for all starchy potato things, no? More so when fried.

Potato chips are the biggest exception but I always feel indulgent eating them.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Maybe. Theyre all better crisp but chickfila fries legitimately taste bad imo when they arent fresh. Others are sad but still edible. Probably has to do with them being being more fresh

Yeah I don’t have a huge horse in the race. I’m 100% going with home fries in this list unless I’m on the move.

I've never heard anyone call wedges "steak cut", steak cut is a wider standard cut.

Yeah I love home fries but they're a completely different category. It's like including hash browns or a baked potato.

I found a gr8 way to make steak cuts at home. I cut up the taters, blanche them in oil on the stove and then transfer them to the air fryer. Come out perfect and crispy

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I don't care if air fryers are considered so meme device. Nothing gets anything anywhere as crispy as fast hot air

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I thought it was a shit meme device, got one as a gift and I use it lots. It's literally a countertop convection oven, but it's awesome

Jump in the discussion.

I use mine all the time. Multiple functions but the best thing is it takes basically no time to preheat.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Air fryers are great if you cant afford the space for an oven ( :marseybeggar:)

Theyre impractical for cooking anything beyond snacks though. Just get a stove like a functioning adult

>blanche them in oil

???

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Like deep frying but lower temp and faster. I think the oil is probably 250-280F and i put them in there just long enough to get sliiiiiiightly crispy i don't drain them too thoroughly after

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I dont think that would be considered blanching, youre just lightly frying them before putting them in the air fryer. Im sure they do taste amazing that way though. Ive always understood blanching to be doing a quick boil in water before transferring them to a cooler, kind of precooking them or something

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Idk i learned it at a restaurant. They would set the fryer to 250 and quickly fry potatoes and mushrooms, then they'd put them away for later

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I thought it was quickly boiling them but im also a bit of an r-slur. Either way sounds tasty

same, it was news to me tbh
