Loblaws used to be a discount grocery chain famous for its store brand products. I shopped there exclusively for years, they had an excellent selection of produce and asian foods. The meat was always expensive but I paid for it because it saved me a trip elsewhere, everything evened out.
They lost the plot during covid and are now priced as high or higher than "luxury" brands. Walmart is cheaper by 20 to 30% across the board. I shop around now, going to the asian stores, walmart, the butcher and Costco. Loblaws can suck it.
Anti competition rules here that make it difficult if not impossible for new brands to come in if they're not Canadian owned. Also the market here just won't sustain more competition, Canada is a big country geographically but we only have like 35 million people.

Kinda funny how he boned himself by putting his full name in those "we're being responsible about COVID!" emails they sent 3x a week, because now everyone just associates Galen Weston specifically with the price hike

Yeah Loblaws has never been a discount grocery. What they are now, at least, is a near monopoly grocery chain they own all the other brands almost.
