That's what I don't get. If you're pricing it so high that you KNOW it will go to waste - Why??

Tax write offs. Gotta keep those reported profits down so they can keep saying their total profit margin is less than 4% after all!

Loblaws used to be a discount grocery chain famous for its store brand products. I shopped there exclusively for years, they had an excellent selection of produce and asian foods. The meat was always expensive but I paid for it because it saved me a trip elsewhere, everything evened out.

They lost the plot during covid and are now priced as high or higher than "luxury" brands. Walmart is cheaper by 20 to 30% across the board. I shop around now, going to the asian stores, walmart, the butcher and Costco. Loblaws can suck it.

Some stuff, yeah. The name brand stuff they carried was $$$ but the produce and no name non perishables were cheap.

Yeah Loblaws has never been a discount grocery. What they are now, at least, is a near monopoly grocery chain they own all the other brands almost.

Anti competition rules here that make it difficult if not impossible for new brands to come in if they're not Canadian owned. Also the market here just won't sustain more competition, Canada is a big country geographically but we only have like 35 million people.

If you can find packs of huge amounts of chicken :marseyblackcock: for extremely cheap, it's probably because it's pumped full of hormones all its life and then they inject :marseymaidgeisha: it with water :marseylongsurfing: to pump up the weight.

If that's good quality :marseygem: chicken, it's a very reasonable price, it looks good. quit whining

Loblaws chicken is sinewy trash full of hormones and saline. Loblaws is anywhere from 40 to 100% more expensive than their competitors

That's the beauty of capitalism. If you don't agree with the price, buy it somewhere else.

main difference in chicken is if it's water or airchilled. Airchilled is 100% better as waterchilled can absorb up to 12% of its weight in water. it's also worse tasting and doesn't bread well.

but that's basically the only difference and $30 is NOT how much airchilled costs, even for freerange

Jump in the discussion.

The chicken injected with brine is better. And don't @ me telling me I'm paying more for salt water because I compare dollar per gram of protien, not dollar per gram of chicken.

Loblaws is a dog water grocery chain. The only food item i found to be less expensive than other stores in general was deli meat, which again i can find cor cheaper or comparable if i cared about deli meat. Otherwise, like that image, their butcher is way overpriced, their produce us abosolute garbage, like starts rotting or moulding within 2 days etc..

As a one stop grocery store, it quite possibly the worst.

At least they offered everyone like 10 dollar gift cards to not sue when they were caught price fixing bread.
