Thank you for posting this. All of the Abrahamic religions have anti-queer rhetoric yet somehow Islam gets all the hate on this subreddit as if all Muslims have an issue with gay people when there are obviously some who don't. Scriptures are open to interpretation - don't condemn an entire religion with reactionary hate to some bigots.
If 95% of your followers are bigots, it's only logical to see islam for what it is: organised bigotry
I sometimes wonder about guys like this. Does he genuinely not understand that if he walks into a church in Malta, Cape Verde, or East Timor and tells the local priest he's gay, the priest might tell him he's going to Heck, but he's not gonna send him there himself? But if he does the same in a mosque in Tunisia, Senegal, or Indonesia, he's not guaranteed that same level of consideration from the local imam? Or is he well aware of that, but pretends he isn't because the people he's aligned himself with politically have decided Catholics are worse than Sunnis, so he feels obligated to pretend they're also at least as homophobic, if not more so?
They generally think the homophobia they've experienced, and by experienced it's often secondhand generalisations rather than direct, is the worst it gets. A white person called them a cute twink once and gay marriage was legalised in their lifetime so all Christians are homophobic and all homophobia is equally evil.
Being gay is illegal, even punishable by death, in many countries still. Other than Russia, they're inevitably nonwhite and/or non-Christian countries. But for people like this, who think it's queer praxis to hate Repulicans more than racial minorities, accepting that nonwhites might hate them far more than the people who merely tolerate them breaks their solipsism.
It's like how Queers For Palestine is ultimately a narcissistic movement, because they just can't fathom that anyone they're not rebelling against could possibly think differently to them. Victims = good people = people who share their beliefs, no matter what they say. They lack real empathy.
