In an interview on Thursday with The New York Times, Ms. Pelosi said what was widely reported around the time Mr. Biden dropped out: that she believed it was implicitly understood that his exit would be followed by an internal party competition for a new nominee, instead of an anointment of Vice President Kamala Harris.

She's full of shit and just politicking to distance herself from the disaster. How often does a VP not get the nomination? An open primary against a sitting VP would likely have been a divisive shit show.

Admittedly they were in a lose-lose-lose when the choice was made for Biden to stay in. It's doubtful Pelosi disagreed with the party line the day he dropped out anything more than a few passing comments, and she's kittyfooting around too much to say she wanted him to have never run for a 2nd term.

Biden in 2016. Cheney in 2008, some guy named Alben W. Barkley in 1952. So it's rare but not unheard of.

Biden and Cheney both chose not to run, that's quite a bit different. Harris clearly has far too much hubris to not run.

Imagine not nominating a
