coredumps are easily that large, since they're basically a copy of everything in memory at the time of the crash.

Kinda r-slurred to keep the whole coredump around and not have any code to cycle them, though (like "only keep the 3 most recent coredumps"). The devs are probably, like most software devs, incompetent.
