Weekly "What are you watching?" thread

Yes this is a weekly thread, do not question me

What have you plebs been watching? How was it? Tell us!

NO ANIME

Black Mirror season 6 was pretty mid, and some episodes were downright awful (werewolves wtf)

The Bear might be the best show of the fricking year, go watch it if you haven't

Other than that I think TV is fricking dead for the forseeable future. HBO MAX has some cool stuff in the pipeline, but that is months or years away

Good time to get into your backlog

If you need reccs, you know who to ask

I haven't seen a single show in literal years. Last thing I watched was the Expanse in 2021 I think. Am I missing out on anything?

no. i’ve tried to start watching a couple shows but didn’t finish the first season. i think i just don’t really enjoy watching tv any more. if i’m going to sit around i’d rather read or play vidya.

Expanse is decently kino, have you read the books?

Nah and I'm not planning to read them. In fact I have stopped at season 3 and I have no desire to continue either because some developments pissed me off. I really hated the overweight super soldier Martian queen. I liked Alex and that one burly and boisterous guy. Idk though really...

you are letting your (justified) seething over flanderization in adaptation make you miss out on a good book series. bobby plays a much smaller role in the books, also she is a better character. they all are tbh, every character is much more of a neutral 3d person rather than being a cliche boiled down to progressive stereotypes

I finished the series and was thinking of picking up the books since it doesn't look like they'll get another season greenlit. Have you read the whole series and does it wrap up well? Kind of tired of starting a marathon series only to have it fail to stick the ending.

it’s totally worth it and the ending is really good. no surprises or butt-pulling or twists, just a solid ending that wraps up everything. there’s enough differences that it would be worth starting from book one but if you don’t want to waste time you could theoretically start from book seven. you might be confused about who some people are and some plot beats like Alex being alive but nothing crazy.
