I was infuriated at the piss poor job they did dubbing gymnopedie no1 over the foid miming piano. Also chess is gay and backgammon would be a much more fun game to make a show about esp if they set it in the 60s/70s heyday with mag riel and Robertie and the New York club

Wuziz's recommendations:

FROM : from some of the producers of LOST and staring Howard Pavreau (Michael) as the lead. Drivers get tricked into coming to this fricked up haunted town full of monsters and they can't leave. Filmed in Nova Scotia and also staring Newfoundland's Sean Majumbner.

Silo : Ten thousand people living below ground in a 120+ level self sustaining Silo but nobody remembers why they're in there or when they can come out. People who cause too much trouble or who ask to go outside are allowed to go outside to "Clean" the Silos exterior sensors as those remaining inside watch them inevitably die from exposure to the exterior. The new Sheriff starts to question what is really true and why so much is hidden from the inhabitants.

FROM is on MGM+ and Silo is on Apple, both are also available on your torrent site of choice.

I've been watching the odd episode of The Simpsons and Miami Vice when I feel like TV.

I've watched a few films this week.

Smoking Causes Coughing - French comedy by the guy who directed Rubber (the film about a killer tyre). A group of superheroes go to a team building retreat and tell some scary stories. Really absurd film.

Blade Runner 2049 - Watched it with one of my friends because we were talking about Ryan Gosling and he hadn't seen it. It's gotten better every time I've seen it. I think the only thing holding it back from being a perfect film IMO is that it doesn't trust the audience to figure anything out themselves.

Return To Seoul - I enjoyed it, but it was a little disappointing. It's about a korean girl who was adopted by a french couple, who goes back to Seoul to find her birth family. Started of excellent, but as the film went I found myself disliking the main character. Beautiful film though.

Joy Ride - Much better than I expected. Same premise as Return To Seoul but it's an adult comedy instead of a drama. Chinese girl except it's revealed she's actually korean :marseyshook: is adopted by an american couple. She goes to China for a business deal, and ends up looking for her birth parents with some of her friends. It was disarmingly funny, and it was refreshing to see a film like this in the cinema. Thought they were dying out.

That’s definitely my issue with Blade Runner 2049. They had to tie it up with a nice little bow and have a happy ending.

The ambiguity of the original Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep are what made them so compelling. They were supposed to make you think.

2049 lets you think for 20 minutes then just spoon feeds you an answer. Still a great movie overall though.

don't rely watch stuff anymore just youtobe :marseyshrug:

there's something about actors and the scripts on this modern drivel that's like, really disingenuous?

like it's so far from actual human behaviour and it's all so repetitive and tropey, theres maybe 50-100 ideas and stories they retell over and over and over

idk it all just feels like watching the cheesiest sitcom ever now, after years of just real people doing real things, or talking naturally about something on youtbe

even if they write a script its like, they wrote it for themselvs it just comes off way better

  • Rewatching LOST with friends. Two of them haven’t seen it. I’ve seen it when I was younger and I don’t really remember much other than the basic plot. So, I’m enjoying it.

  • Started on the Other Two. Still funny in the 3rd season but they started to introduce some absurd comedy since 2nd season and it is kind of offputting. The show calls out Twitter style wokeism and feminism. I liked those. The two main characters had become such buttholes over time and it’s cringe. It doesn’t help that the show made other characters around them to be super wholesome.

  • Continuing with the Righteous Gemstones. No smuuut, no luuust, no coconuuuts! I was lukewarm on the previous season but I’m really enjoying this season so far. Main gripe is Gideon has become so underused now. He’s just now a drive really?

  • somewhat watching Scream Queens. Started with friends and I enjoyed the early part of season 1 but it keeps dragging on and on to avoid revealing who the killer is.

Just watched the Austrian version of "Goodnight Mommy," a horror film about two young brothers who begin to think their mother has been replaced by another person after reconstructive surgery. There's a great sense of dread, a lot of wonderful shots, and the last 20 minutes are very unsettling, but the pacing is extremely slow and the ending sucks. Foreshadowing doesn't stop certain ideas from being inherently stupid, and the movie is utterly clogged with red herrings.

It's ok so far but I hate that it has that extremely straightforward episodic structure and you never feel like you're watching something continuous like a film, it always feels like a show (which it is).

The spontaneous, artificial-feeling conflicts don't help that.
