I also genuinely really like the show but agree that endless spin-offs and giving everybody a dramatic torture porn traumatic backstory is a trend that should generally be avoided. BCS has both good and bad examples of the backstory - they did a good job implying that mike has issues from Vietnam without randomly doing a nam flashback episode but then they randomly had gus's gay lover getting murdered or some shit
