I think it did show that (which was refreshing in a way), it just didn't really work it into the structure and plot of the film.Strawberry is shown to be already corrupt, he's not actually the one driving that. And the wife turns out to be a prostitute, too. So it's mostly his personality that's supposed to be objectionable.

I watched the whale with my parents
Even ignoring that it was still eh. I feel like the female eric cartmen wasnt realistic -- like even after her big reveal (which was just "hurt people hurt people 😢") her actions didnt really make sense.
also a lot of the movie was just funny. like the scene where the mormon walked in on him watching gay porn and it took him like 15 minutes to turn it off genuinely made me laugh even though that probably isnt the intent. and the scene where he kills himself by scarfing down pizza is conceptually hilarious, though the exucution made it worse by making it serious

Everything Everywhere is probably my favourite film of theirs, but they've got a lot of good stuff, and a lot of interesting stuff. They take risks, which is valuable, even if they don't always pay off.
Going down the list:
Under the Skin is interesting far beyond Scarlett Johansson getting naked. Room is very good, if possibly affected by how you might feel about Brie Larson. Lady Bird is great and Barbie makes more sense if you've seen it. The Disaster Artist is a lot of fun and James Franco does an excellent Tommy Wiseau. I love Hereditary, with an impossibly good Toni Collette; Midsommar has a similarly great Florence Pugh, and while they take too long to get to the fireworks factory it's a film that stays with you. The Lighthouse, like The Viking, is not for me, but they are both well made versions of not for me films.
I've seen a few others. Beau is Afraid is fricked up and indulgent, You Hurt My Feelings is a very slight comedy that's a lot of fun, Aftersun is well-done but rarely as profound as it thinks it is, The Whale is someone's first play from a decade ago and it really shows... I could go on.
But a special highlight to Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, which is utterly charming, and Bodies Bodies Bodies, which I love almost as much as Everything Everywhere and is a horror-comedy that is fabulously scabrous. Not enough people saw it and it's a poisonous delight that posters here would probably like.
They're more niche, in a way I appreciate. Also The Whale is overrated. You're not wrong, but you're comparing their best film to a couple of their more Current Year offerings. If you like horror, they offer some interesting variety there.

The part where he talks about paradigms for understanding people and why our modern conception of it makes boring characters is pretty interesting, but his critisisms of EE aren't that meaningful. The psychoanalysis about BIPOCS needing therapy isn't why I like EE -- it's the concept of seeing everything. The awe and wonder that comes from that and the way characters react to it
Also the everything bagel isnt supposed to represent "the richness of being" -- at least that's not how I read it. Joy needed a way to make a game out of the meaninglessness, and cramming everything into an infinitely dense black hole is a good plausibly-sci-fi way to do that

IMO, the concept of being able to perceive the entirety of reality is actually pretty interesting, and you could either put a positive spin on it depicting the "awe and wonder"/feeling of discovering or exploring something or go the other way and verge into cosmic horror by showing characters as they perceive something greater than themselves and the world they live in. You could even do both by using the perspective of different characters if you really want to retain a psychological aspect
I think the movie kind of failed for me because of the tone. Im pretty sure I laughed at some of the weird shit but it kind of just felt cartoonish the whole way through, like rick and morty or something. Insightful comedy is possible but it has to be witty and not just gross-outs/shock humor
Also the asians-need-therapy seething was seriously heavy-handed. Felt like I was reading a generic college essay by some 16 year old whining about her asian parents not supporting her art ambitions enough lol
