I saw about 3 minutes of this where it's teaching girls to try to provoke men into a jealous rage. I had to turn it off because I can't help but think of how many are going to try this irl and get murdered.

To be fair, the jealous rage resolves in a musical number, a very silly fight and the Kens more resolved to work together.
The mistake with Barbie is to take any of it seriously. I'm not surprised that there are foids only now saying they hated it. I doubt they did at the time, but also the film had to satisfy at least a half dozen different masters, including different waves of feminism that hate each other. There's something to piss off everyone in the film, it's just different for each group of people. And Lipstick Alley types are the sort to have one moment in something go against their morality and so the whole thing is shit.

All good points. I saw barbie and Oppenheimer the same day and liked them both. Barbie was more goofy and self-aware than most people give it credit for. All the messaging in it was tied to the plot of the movie too, not like how Disney sneaks unrelated messaging into Marvel/Pixar/Indiana Jones for the sake of idpol.

Nah, even if you disregard how the whole logic of the movie's world doesn't make any sense. I still think it's pretty poorly written even on a surface level. I am still not convinced that Ken being such a likeable character was intentional. Honestly it's so messy that I am willing to give Greta the benefit of the doubt and consider that the executives really fricked her over. I think there is a good chance that originally the Mattel board were meant to be the true villains of the movie but Mattel probably stepped in and changed it.

I just think that if Ken was intended to be sympathetic the resolution of the movie would have involved the Barbies realizing the flaws within their own society and treating the Kens better, but the resolution is basically Barbieland goes back to how it was before with the Kens as second class citizens again.
