New Star Wars series ‘The Acolyte’
— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) June 5, 2024
is the “gayest Star Wars yet” according to the producer and cast.
Does this make you want to watch it more or less? pic.twitter.com/GdXVjbSzYP

when a tv show has a gay character in the first episode I immediately turn it off

So you turned off The Wire?

I would've. Such an overrated show. Its characters are cardboard cutouts from every cop and crime TV show. I really don'f understand the hype.
!kino, what are y'all's thoughts?

Rly it was notable for being a sort of accurate portrayal of government dysfunction and muh inner city crime (except for the cheesy parts that aren't) and it came out during that time in the early 2000s when serialized TV was just starting to be treated like a big boy medium where you could show boobies and tell serious stories instead of just sitcomslop and soapslop. It was coming off the heels of Oz which was the grittiest and edgiest show ever at the time but in hindsight is hilariously bad.
It's a good well written show but the definition of overrated. It isn't Gods gift to television and there are some pretty stupid and pretty cornball parts.

Such contrarianism (or lack of taste), Frank Sobotka is one the best, if not the single best, tv characters of all time.

"Prestige televsion" in general is overrated. I'd rather watch lighter entertainment like House MD, X-files or other episodic shows.

I tried watching X-Files again and ehh it has good moments but it's also full of cheap storylines and the early seasons a lot of plotholes are filled with mystical gov black suits. And deepthroats character doesnt make sense.

Not TV shows. Their characters and stories are so weak. Always have been.
Hit & Run was pretty fun, and refreshing. I like that guy a lot from Fauda, but I wish they bought a better camera and cinematographer.

The wire predates most of that slop.
It's almost like a lot of cop and crime tv emulates the wire and not the other way around...

No lol stuff like the drunk mick cop cliche predates it by decades

That is really tiny part of the show and also pretty realistic. The mick wasnt the only degenerate drunk either

Okay which popular cop v criminal tv shows were there before The Wire?
It kind of seems like youre just one of those redditeurs who likes to hate something just because it is popular.

People recommended it and kept saying how it great it was and have done that for over 10 years after it was finished. I saw two episodes and concluded it was crap.
I don't particularly like TV shows because they tend to have crappy characters, a dumb story, and meander around for hours instead of wrapping it up. At least Breaking Bad was good. The Wire was extremely overrated.
Think about it.
It's not hard to understand, Kutcope.

It took me 3 tries to actually stick through watching the first season. For me it was the really shitty accent that just made me zone out.
I don't know why but after I finished most of the first season I finished the entire series during COVID.
To me it seems kind of stupid to call characters cutouts or the story bad after only watching 2 episodes. If you expect some kind of huge character development in 2 episodes I dont know what tvshows to recommend you.

Yo Hailvictory, I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish but Omar is good, it was a bretty original character when the wire came out, dude's even directly inspired on a real G.

I also felt like Omar is a great example of jow to do a gay character properly. He wasnt hamfisted in for diversity sake, and his homosexuality wasnt his whole identity/personality, it was simply just another aspect of his lifestyle that made him ablittle more interesting.

yeah and him being gay was the seed of an important plot point causing him to want revenge and it was plausible cuz blacks hate gays
