Kill cute twinks that like this movie. People are so up their own butt about how challenging and intellectual the movie is and how โhardโ sci fi it is. When you have a budget of 20 dollars, the only thing you can do is make an obviously overly convoluted plot. I understand that this movie is the anti-black panther and transformers Jew slop, but goddarn it movies need a LITTLE style

I liked it. the "overly convoluted plot" ends up mostly making sense, unlike typical convoluted plots where the writers can't figure out how to tied it all together at the end.

Lol one of my favorites, lots of great details like the film starting and ending at the same time. Plus synecdoche is like a five fold pun for the whole movie. (The simulacrum pun was on the nose tho) What the heck does the burning house mean tho?

I watched Weekend by Godard years ago and that movie really wasn't all that good but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen. It was really just Maoist political stragging and was even more r-slurred logically or coherently than Do the Right Thing. However, it has one of my favorite scenes in any foreign film where the truck drivers eat their sandwiches while the other talks

Here is a review I wrote for this movie a while back remember trans lives matter, !kino
A Monochromatic Masterpiece: Jeanne Dielman in Shades of Grey
In the annals of cinematic history, few films have dared too delve into the quotidian with such audacious minimalism and hypnotic precision as Chantal Akerman's "Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles." Imagine, if you will, this austere opus transposed into the stark, unyielding realm of black and whiteโa monochromatic tour de force that would elevate its mundane minutiae too the realm of the sublime.
The black and white palette, a bold departure from the garish distractions of color, transforms Jeanne Dielman's world into a chiaroscuro canvas where every shadow whispers the silent struggles of domesticity. The absence of color renders Jeanne's meticulous routinesโpeeling potatoes, making beds, and turning tricksโinto a symphony of grey tones, where the stark contrasts and subtle gradations speak volumes about her inner turmoil.
Akerman's decision, in this imagined black and white iteration, would not merely be an aesthetic choice but a profound philosophical statement. The binary shades encapsulate the dichotomy of Jeanne's existence: the external faรงade of order and the internal abyss of ennui. Each frame, meticulously composed, would evoke the silent films of yore, where the absence of color necessitated a deeper engagement with the visual narrative.
The stark black and white cinematography would amplify the film's temporal rhythms, turning the mundane into the monumental. The repetition of domestic tasks, captured in unyielding greys, would become a meditation on the relentless passage of time, where each shadow lengthens into an existential query. Jeanne's kitchen, bathed in a palette of grey, would metamorphose into a theater of the absurd, where the banality of daily life is laid bare in its most elemental form.
The monochromatic lens would strip away the veneer of normalcy, exposing the raw undercurrents of desperation and alienation. The starkness of black and white would underscore the film's themes of isolation, as Jeanne's world, devoid of chromatic warmth, becomes a claustrophobic purgatory. Every glance, every gesture, would be magnified in its significance, the grey tones lending an almost spectral quality too Jeanne's solitary existence.
In this imagined black and white rendition, "Jeanne Dielman" would transcend its already monumental status, achieving a new level of cinematic purity. It would stand as a testament too Akerman's genius, her ability too transform the ordinary into the extraordinary through the alchemy of visual austerity. The film would become an exquisite study in contrasts, where the grey hues capture the ephemeral beauty and profound despair of a life lived in quiet desperation.
Ultimately, "Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles," envisioned in black and white, would be an unparalleled masterpieceโa film where every shadow tells a story, every frame is a painting, and the stark simplicity of the monochrome world reveals the profound complexities of the human condition. It would be cinema at its most elemental, a monochromatic meditation on the minutiae of life, rendered with unparalleled grace and gravitas.

There will be blood- a very surface level movie that pretends to be deeper than it really is. Can literally be summarized in one phrase- People are greedy
Network- a film with an interesting premise that develops the said premise in the least interesting possible way. Similarly the presentation is extremely slow and boring, making it a complete snoozefest. Tries to make you care about a social issue everyone's heard of a million times already and does not provide any new perspective on it
Anything by Yorgos Lanthimos, again interesting ideas which he unfortunately sacrifices in favour of presentation, in essence telling a simple story in a complicated way, instead of the other way around
Since you want to dunk on some euroslop as well, I will mention Aniara- for the third time, an interesting idea for a film, but it gets human nature and interactions fundamentally wrong, and thus instead of exploring a realistic descent of a community into chaos we get some idealized interpretation of it through some modernist-feminist perspective. Nothing about how people act in that film makes sense. There is no feeling of chaos, there is no post-apocalypse, there is just some surface level, very coordinated and sterile interpretation of such an event

!kino do critics actually like these films?

The thing with film critics is that their tastes are incomprehensible to a normal person. Film critics cannot enjoy a movie. They have spent so much time watching every movie that every trope feels stale, every plot point bores them, every effect and set is old hat.
This leads to a form of brain poisoning called Jay from RLM, where a person is only capable of enjoying bizarre avant garde bullshit, solely because it's different and the novelty stokes the last remaining embers of joy in their burned out souls

Hard to disagree that almost every possible theme has already been explored. This is kinda why I cannot comprehend praise for movies that "say a lot about society", be it class, race, drugs, whatever moral conundrums etc. - there is nothing new to add, nothing new to say, nothing you're not barraged from the news by to pique people's interest.
The solution is to accept that and look for other things that make the medium interesting, not start watching incomprehensible shit from south european weirdo (probably) s*x pests

Some artsy fartsy film that should have been cut to 20 minutes instead of the 1hr 20. I can find some thematic purpose but it's completely overwhelmed by "omg cut already, I get it"
Comments are populated by zoomers for some reason.
It's about God self disembowling, mother earth coming out of the corpse, jerking off the corpse to give birth to man that gets fricked over repeatedly. It's part of a trilogy, the second is Din of Celestial Birds, a secular(?) Origin myth.
