I think it's more than that. Superhero films are dead after almost 15 years of dominance, movies based on fantasy/scifi aren't pulling their weight and they don't know where to go next. You're going to see them trying everything until they find what people want. Just last month i was wondering how long until westerns take off again.

You can have cheese and adventure with good writing. The idea you need one or the other is a lazy butt lie, and the adventures with interesting stories and characters are the ones they keep remaking because they're the ones that stick with people
