Or you can just go become yet another Marvel Millennial cute twink I guess

idk Tolkien was a devout Catholic (who is in the process of being Canonized), a WWI Combat Vet, a father, and respected philologist and linguist--his works have value not only as entertainment, but as literature.

The Legendarium is kinda different than Goyslop Cinematic Universe #56

The man was an Oxford don using his stupidly extensive book learning to painstakingly put together a neo-mythology complete with linguistics. I mean you can call it a lot of things, but home of the fart joke it ain't

He's not in the process of being canonized. :marseysquint: Also he was a bit of a RadTrad who hated V2 so it's quite unlikely to occur in the very near future unless the next Pope is drastically different.

Definitely a devout Catholic though. @Lv73_Slime @BWC (tag for actual radtrad mention, he stood up during one of the first Masses offered in the vernacular and loudly responded in Latin and was one of the figures responsible for TLM continuing in England, along with Agatha Christie and Graham Greene) !Catholics

Sorry, I should have clarified that they're trying to have the case opened:

True, he was radtrad but more in a good hearted old guy way and less in a new schismatic kind of way.

His books brought many people back to Christ and many people into the Catholic church.

I wasn't trying to criticize him so much as just pointing out that the current political situation in the Church does make it unlikely he receives (further) formal recognition. It's also not super common for anyone but martyrs to get a quick process just in general. St. Teresa, St. Pio (also a TLM enjoyer) and soon to be St. Acutis are exceptions to the norm.

Personally, I would like the Church to reconsider important historical figures like Origen and Blessed Duns Scotus who were rejected mostly for being "heterodox thinkers" before pushing through pious celebrities but I'm probably the oddball for feeling that way and it would also similarly be a source of drama internally. Origen in particular won't happen, though, even if he formed a huge basis for all theology. :marseyshrug:

The standing up and disobeying thing is a pretty funny curmudgeonly old man moment yeah. :marseythegrey:

It kind of depends on Tolkiens book tbh. The Hobbit was intended as a children's book but the Silmarillion and its prose is way too complicated for kids and even some adults struggle with it, but that's because the Silmarillion is more like a mythology compendium.

Regardless of that children's literature can still be top notch. Look at the Jungle Book or The Little Prince.

I don't hate culture so much as I hate people's obsession with culture/art produced by others.

Soo... Someone can only like culture that they themselves produced? :marseyquestion:

You can like whatever you want but focusing on your own creations is always going to be way better than enjoying what others have made.

Stop being so pissweak that you take personally what a bunch of r-slurs do to the things you loved as a child.

If that show you cared about as a kid isn't as good as it used to be, don't watch :marseysalitsnowhere: the new stuff. Just watch :marseyopera: the old stuff. Or, better :marseysaulgoodman: yet, grow up and watch :marseywait: something  made for grown ups, and only watch :marseywait: the old kids shows with your actual children.
