Probably easier to replace the actors with CGI than having to recast and then reshoot the entire movie, more or less. This thing has been a disaster from the start, and I can only imagine that they've already sunk so much money into it, they're continuing to throw good money after bad in a desperate hope that it'll do okay at the box office and earn it all back.

Yeah, it's running so late because the studio has had to do re-shoots and drop the Seven Persons Experiencing Unhomedness for the CGI dwarves. If they had managed to release it on time, it would probably have done average business, then be forgotten about. But they made all their own problems, including casting Zegler who then promptly went off and did a series of interviews where she was a little b-word.
