The quality of horror cinema is way too shit.

Look at all these examples. Why can't we have this level of kino in full feature length cinema format.

It's like hollywood or normiewood has stagnated in terms of quality and environment and there are fan films out there with far better depth, detail, and environment than actual blockbuster movies out there.

Answering to the lowest common denominator has been a real let down for cinema.

The fact that alien 1 is still counted as one of the best horror movies out there shows exactly how stagnant western cinema is in terms of quality. It's like all the movie grads learnt nothing after "don't have too many jumpscares" as one of the pieces of advice from the last generation.

The quality of cinema today could probably be doubled or tripled with ease if only there was a team who cared enough, had the funds, and also the required levels of artistic freedom to make their vision come true.

Nicholas cage appears to be the only novelty innovator in hollywood anymore and that is just sad.

There were some hopes for the A24 studio but they went down the route of le heckin wrong think accusation plus high tier atmosphere for an indie movie.

28 weeks later released in 2007, and we haven't had zombie kino half as good in 1.5 decades and counting now.

We are stuck with marvel slop now. Half of which has been trash lately. The current marvel phase is likely to be the weakest one of all time.

Cinema is dead, and the normies killed it.

Just to be clear, I am not arguing that some great high budget movies haven't released in recent times. I am arguing that the average quality of cinema today is shit, with entire genres of cinema being shit, like horror.

It's like the entire industry is stuck in some shitty loop of telling all their stories in the same order, the same style, the same scope, and the same angle, with only the script changing at best, if not being an outright copy of some earlier material.

You have any idea how shit cinema has to be for Avatar 3 to be the most exciting thing coming out of it next year?

Decent CGI has existed since 2007 or 2008. It's been 1.5 decades since then. Good CGI should be in the hands of the average indie developer by now, but instead we are stuck with shitty CGI making its way up to the highest budget movies out there ( looking at you black widow movie ).

Cinema is so shit right now that bringing back animatronic looking monsters is considered revolutionary right now.

This looks so fricking stupid for a monster design. Like some trash from 2013. How the frick are people celebrating this as innovative in current year is beyond me.

Video games have probably evolved at a 10x to a 100x rate compared to movies and cinema. No wonder vidya beats the income of movies today.

Conclusion:

Current day horror scene sucks. Current day science fiction scene is doing average. Current day cinema on average sucks with only the biggest budget movies somehow pulling their weight.

Acadian was spoopy for about 45 minutes until they revealed the monsters were kitties that are able to be killed by a child with a shovel. Their superpower is they form a giant donut and roll around. Fricking scam movie.

I think the color out of space is better then the end parts of Arcadian, but Arcadian is better before the reveal of the monsters actual power level.

It's funny that you bring up vidya, as imo they have the exact same problem. All this tech just leads to more expensive and time consuming projects that aren't any good. If anything it just seems like the bigger investments makes everyone more risk adverse. Only real innovation over the last decade in vidya is micro transactions.

Sure, all the big studio stuff tends to be the same kind of slop that marvel makes, although I feel like indie games have a bigger presence in gaming than indie movies do in cinema? Which may be why gaming is still a lot more innovative, it's much easier to get your game on steam than to distribute a movie, so you get more people taking risks, bringing in fresh ideas and creating niche content.

I think it's because while these kino short films with abstract monsters are cool to think about, they wouldn't really work for a hollywood style blockbuster horror since half the appeal is just "bizzare creature acting out its existence" rather than it being all that scary upfront. That said they could probably just do a dead space movie and be done with it tbh..

I don't even think we need slowburns we just need horror films where the characters aren't straight up r-slurred and the monsters are designed with more creativity than 'just a rotten guy with glowing eyes', 'dog/man/thing that's all black and can barely be seen in the darkness.' I wouldn't even say that the SCP franchise is good for that either since all it 'actually' brings to the table is the idea of some r-slurred organization cataloging monsters and running r-slurred experiments on them, and also the existence of tactigoon squads galavanting about killing monsters, or something.

I also think that a lot of zoomer horror's just overrated or r-slurred if you put some thought into it. We're also at the point where most people are desensitized to gore to the point that we need to start finding a genre of horror weird and aggressive enough to be entertaining and simultaneously scary. Something like fear and hunger or darkwood adapted on film might work in that regard.

It can't be too scary or people won't watch it or something
