Watched three movies this week:
Out of sight: This one was fun. It reminded me of Ocean's eleven a few times, because it does feel like Clooney plays a similar character. It is slightly less humorous and more violent than ocean's eleven though.
Top Gun: I'll be honest. I expected this being way better than it is. I have watched this movie in parts before, but I've never sat through it whole. Not saying it's a bad movie, but definitely expected more from it. Maybe I'm just bitter, but I just find Tom Cruise's character really obnoxious. I'm sitting there rooting for Ice Man instead, because at least he's not fricking around. Also the design of the fake-Migs is trash.
Evil dead: This one I didn't expect to like, because I hate horror movies as is. They're all incredibly predictable. The only reason I watched it is because I want to watch Army of Darkness, because it seems like a movie that's constantly referenced in other media. For this one I'm wondering if it's hitting every genre trope on purpose - the group of teenagers, ancient evil, demons, cabin in the woods, etc etc. - or if it's this movie that made those tropes tropes?

I think part of the point of Top Gun 1 is that both the bravado of Tom Cruise and the discipline of Ice Man are necessary to a successful military force. I respected that TG1 showed Tom Cruise getting his partner killed by being reckless, in contrast to Top Gun Maverick where Tom Cruise is a superhero that does whatever the frick he wants, takes over from the young'uns, and saves absolutely everyone with no casualties.
