Watched the new alien film. Only watched the first one before this, so half the move seems like callbacks to a movie I haven't watched...it is so awkwardly shot in so many places that I have to assume those scenes are references to other films.

I'm curious about the new Alien film. The last one was so far up it's own arse that it really ruined any attempt at storytelling. Yes, there are aliens, that reveal doesn't need to be an overly artsy theatrical moment as the audience already know.

I've been watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the odd episode of Columbo. Columbo is always kino, but I don't watch it often enough. Just watched the John Cassavetes episode
. Curb is good but every episode feels the same. I almost gave up on it, but the Shaq episode was so good I became a fan again. I've just started season 3. I'm hoping it's a case where it gets better as it goes on.
As for films, I watched Borderlands
. The first 30 ish minutes was pretty okay tbh. Tricked me into thinking it might be better. It didn't last though. It's a fairly faithful adaptation of the first game, and I have no idea why they even bothered. It's boring. They should've just adapted the second one, there's at least some kind of plot with some stakes.

Curb is good but after the divorce it gets bad without Cheryl too ground Larry. Resltl bad decision too do that. The TiVo guy episode is also the worst because no one expects them too fight and it's awkward in a bad way white extinction is long overdue

i know for star trek that episode guides exist, which tell you which episodes you can skip. maybe there's somthing similar for buffy as well

Watched three movies this week:
Out of sight: This one was fun. It reminded me of Ocean's eleven a few times, because it does feel like Clooney plays a similar character. It is slightly less humorous and more violent than ocean's eleven though.
Top Gun: I'll be honest. I expected this being way better than it is. I have watched this movie in parts before, but I've never sat through it whole. Not saying it's a bad movie, but definitely expected more from it. Maybe I'm just bitter, but I just find Tom Cruise's character really obnoxious. I'm sitting there rooting for Ice Man instead, because at least he's not fricking around. Also the design of the fake-Migs is trash.
Evil dead: This one I didn't expect to like, because I hate horror movies as is. They're all incredibly predictable. The only reason I watched it is because I want to watch Army of Darkness, because it seems like a movie that's constantly referenced in other media. For this one I'm wondering if it's hitting every genre trope on purpose - the group of teenagers, ancient evil, demons, cabin in the woods, etc etc. - or if it's this movie that made those tropes tropes?

I think part of the point of Top Gun 1 is that both the bravado of Tom Cruise and the discipline of Ice Man are necessary to a successful military force. I respected that TG1 showed Tom Cruise getting his partner killed by being reckless, in contrast to Top Gun Maverick where Tom Cruise is a superhero that does whatever the frick he wants, takes over from the young'uns, and saves absolutely everyone with no casualties.
