I liked season 2 but yeah the finale was meh. Not sure what they could have done though. Don't want to spoil it but not sure where they could have finished it where it would have been more exciting I guess.
The problem, as a lot of people have pointed out, is that they are swiping lines and scenes wholesale from the Jackson movies. So there's a ton of "remember this?" and "he said the thing!" going on which is just not good enough for what is supposed to be an all-original show. So they take lines said by Gandalf or Galadriel or Treebeard or anyone else from the movies and give them to their characters, often mangling the lines in the process and quoting them in a context where they don't fit.
They wanted the Siege of Eregion to be the battle of Helm's Deep, it's really obvious. But the problem is it's not, they managed to screw up their big battle (the troll was pointless after all the build-up) and the one good bit was when Elrond catapulted the Orc into the city wall. It was very funny even if it was very stupid (you're launching rocks at the people you are supposed to be defending). Luckily this one particular catapult was aiming low so it only hit the wall (with the Orc) and not dumped a ton of rocks on top of the defenders inside.
I hate this version of Isildur, I hope the ship with him on it sinks on the way back to Númenor (remember, the sea is always right!)
I agree about Isildur. I picture him as a badass manly man and he's a kitty in the show.
I also thought Sauron tortures Calumbribor (not sure how to spell that) for a lot longer. I need to read the book with all this info out of curiosity. We know that the orcs follow Sauron but I thought the switch was lame and didn't explain anything. Like why?
Also, Sauron IIRC creates the one ring while Calumbrimbor is alive and without his knowledge at Mt. Doom and they skipped over this part.
But again I didn't really like the finale but was entertained by other episodes.
