Was over parents' all week and last weekend, started watching Breaking Bad because dad couldn't believe I've never seen it.
1.5 seasons in and it's alright I guess. Skyler is insufferable and I hate every scene with her in it. Everyone else is just ok at best. I like Jesse. I don't feel very strongly about anything in the show and I'm confused as to how this was such a huge cultural thing.
To further secure my pleb credit, we also watched the first two episodes of Dune Prophecy and I quite liked those.

Idk if this is a hot take or not but I like Walt Jr so far
He's a sympathetic character but people often find him annoying or one dimensional. If you're halfway through the second season I don't think my favorite character has been introduced yet.
Walt was poor because he was a social r-slur. Sold his shares because of pride, broke up with is rich girlfriend because he couldn't stand her being richer than him. He worked for Sandia Labs but somehow managed to end up as some HS teacher.
Even after his Grey Matter shit he could have finished his PhD and get a cushy job on Academia (probably on Caltech or maybe some Ivy League university) or in industry which paid well and included a nice medical insurance.
Skyler is just a consequence of ditching Gretchen.
Skylar sucks and she's not fun but she's also objectively in the right for the season or two. Walt endangers his family and lies to them constantly to commit crimes because he'd rather kill people and make meth than get a real job with his ex business partner or take a handout from his brother in law.
His name should have been Walter black, because he's an absolute BIPOC. But he's also an extremely fun protagonist to root for.
It was a huge thing because of the quality of the show and structure of the narrative relative to what else was on TV at the time. I like it still, but there's def a nostalgia factor.
Plus most of the over it is from ppl who otherwise thought Survivor was the height of television excellence.

It's a show about how marginalized disabled people are because Walter Jr doesn't even get to cook meth
