They don't serve the same purpose, there's not the same incentive for those making decisions to negotiate against them, and from a Marxist perspective their excess labor value is not being usurped by the capitalist class.

Exactly, I've always thought of private sector unions as being limited to what the company is financially able to give them, if the union is delusional they'll all pay for it when the company cuts their losses, closes the plant, and everybody's out of a job. But in the Public sector, it's not like the government can go out of business.

Yep. And this leads to shit like exploding pension costs leading to courts ordering governments to raise taxes or cut other services. Public sector unions are organized against taxpayers.

My issue is the perverting of the relationship between government and public unions. They should be oppositional to each other but in practice they are in bed with each other.

Yeah. In my country government workers are straight up barred from having unions or striking, because theyre servants of the state, not just laborers. in exchange they get really good bennies. It used to be a pretty good system until our leftoid politicians fricked with it and basically removed any chance to fire them for dereliction of duty or not doing their work. So now they can just not work, like burger public workers with their unions.
