On Self inserts

From Dante to Tolstoy to Dan Brown, it seems like self inserts are and old technique with very different results depending of the author.

What are your favorite and most hated self inserts books or characters?

Didn't the game of thrones guy say the fat guy was a sort of self insert? I never read the books, but I hated that fat useless sack of shit the entire show, who was repeatedly a fat useless sack of shit. If he was anything in the books like he was in the movies, I find the game of thrones writer guy to likely be a fat useless sack of shit.

Yes, I think he said Sam was literally him on an interview. He seemed to have based Sam’s father on his father as well. I never understood why Sam was still :marseychonker2: after years of living in the Wall.

There's a few characters he's said are based specifically on himself. My favourite is the r-slur who had 4 chapters and then died in hole.
