Been reading :marseyhijab: the bookclub choice :marseychoice1: :marsey: I've actually :marseyakshually: been reading/playing pure text adventure :marseyzeldaganon: games :marseygamer: based :marseyupvote: off old MUDS. Counterfeit-Monkey is a thriller where :marseydrama: you use linguistic machines to change 1 thing into another to escape :marseyaaajumpscare: the Bureau of Orthography:marseyfluffy:

eg. Turning a "pear" into an "ear" by removing the 'p' to a carnival :marseyballoon: game. https://i.rdrama.net/images/1689341372788704.webp

I've been reading "I am a strange loop" by Douglas Hofstadter. The guy is pretty clever and I liked GEB, but he needs to lay off the philosophy for a while, and this book seems to be all philosophy. Classic example of "STEMcel solves philosophy using logic and science".

Just Master and Margarita for now. The replacement book I ordered ended up being in Russian so I'll be reading my phone copy again I suppose... How's Paradise Lost going?

How's Paradise Lost going?

I didn’t advance any further. For now just Master and Margarita, then I’ll read another book, maybe Paradise Lost or another.

Got The Crossing from the library so I'm reading that. McCarthy is a magician and if you've avoided his novels for some reason I'd recommend you stop

I have a bunch of his books I've been meaning to read. He writes like a sperg though. Like, just use punctuation my neighbor.

Reading 'In The Garden of Beasts' by Erik Larson, even in the beginning it interesting to read about people "both side"ing with Nazis and Jews.

Finished the First Law trilogy and have started on the standalone novels now. Great series and the Glokta chapters were just awesome I was almost upset when they would end and switch to another pov.

The Blade Itself is the first book, right?

Just could not get into it. After like ten chapters of random dudes day to day conversations in some fantasy world, and zero information about the world itself, I realized I don't give a shit about these characters and just stopped.

Does it change from that narrative flow?

So the first book it feels like nothing happens with the plot moving forward but I weirdly enjoyed it. The next two things start happening and there is world building and the history behind the world is given more life. The narrative flow changes but if you didn't like it to that point it is similar enough throughout I would try something else.

I wasn't particularly happy with the way that trilogy ended tbh. I get there being more books and all but, not satisfying.

I didn't love it either but it didn't ruin the overall series for me and I liked it enough.

I might have posted this before but I'm reading

Them: Adventures with Extremists.

I've been on a Ron Johnson thing lately and reading all of his books. They're very good and drama-pilled. Highly recommend.

In this one he just goes around and spends time with a bunch of people who are "Extremists". Like, he hangs out with the KKK (which is funny bc he's a jew) and also meets survivors from Ruby Ridge like Sara and Randy Weaver. He also meets a guy who's obssessed with the Bilderberg group and they travel to Portugal together to try to infiltrate their meeting.

The reason he's good is because he just shows up and spends time with these people and writes objectively about what it's like. There's a bit of brit dry humor/awkwardness injected as well which helps.

If anyone is familiar with Louis Theroux and his documentaries, Ron Johnson books are very much like that, but in book form.

If you're not familiar with Louis, I'd urge you to look into him too.

Also, I did buy Master and Margarita, but haven't started it yet, I'll probably be reading that next.

out of the ashes by william johnstone :smoke:

it's got a lot of :quote: those dirty fricking liberals took our guns and coddled criminals and ruined the country! :quote: in it. it's hilarious and i love it. this is the second time i'm reading it but it's been so long i didn't remember much other than the overall story of "bad actors trick those dumb russians and chinese in to starting a nuclear war and super all american badass travels the country killing criminals and degenerates and racists" (because even though it's all INCREDIBLY RIGHTOID it's also an incredibly anti-racist "judge people for who they are not what color they are" thing. he finds his brother who has became a hardxcore nazi and has to force himself to not kill him cause racism bad.).

Just finished Echopraxia by Peter Watts. Wildly different than it's prequel Blindsight, but still greatly enjoyed the book. Had me feeling unsettled quite often.
