based. But then why complain about book prices?

Because I actually enjoy books, the feel of them. Reading from kindle or your phone or whatever a pdf will never replace the sensation and enjoyment I have from paper .

But the price of novels literally are out of my price range

I still buy 2nd hand books, and can afford new books, but it's just not worth it at the speed I read, at like once a new book every week or fortnight

How much does a paperback novel costs in SA? Give us some prices to compare. Are there many SA printing companies? Is the paper produced locally?

If they're imported that could be playing the bigger role in prices.

R300 for 200 page light novels, between 200rand to 400 rand for 40k books

I once tried to buy the Thrawn trilogy first book, cuz I somehow got the 2 and 3rd book

But they were like it'll cost400 rand and I was like eeeeeeeweeeewehhhhhh

11 dollars for 200 pages paperbacks is just about the same price as here. I never thought that as particularly expensive, just as the price. That hardcover I posted from the Origins of the Species costed me 109 R$ or 20 dollars, fair price imo.

What I thought was expensive was the Analytic Geometry book I used at my freshman year in college, it costed 180R$ back then. I don't remember how was the dollar back then but the Real was stronger.

The US prices are no better, I usually check at Amazon.

Ok rich guy

Do you spend 800 rand on books every month?

>44 dollars

Sometimes, but is not every month, I bought my last physical book in may for 16 dollars and recently I ordered 2 for 23 dollars which should arrive this week. I read mostly on Kindle but I also get a few of them as gifts, my mother usually brings me one as a gift when she comes back from some trip (books are cheaper in our Southern Neighboring countries).

You can get good deals on book fairs too, I got a hardcover from a Kipling poem book for just 5 dollars.

100% agree with you that reading is much better with actual paper in your hand.

What's the library system like in SA? :marseygossipunsure: Free, physical books (although they might not have what you want to read :marseysigh: )

Also buying every book you read compromises shelf space pretty fast unless you have a library room in your house

I ran out of shelf space lmao, I placed the last books I bought over my desk. But that's solvable by putting a new shelf.

I know a guy like that, his room is filled with books stacked on the floor :marseyyikes: :marseyfacepalm: :ragestrangle: He's built a bunch of shelves but ran out of space on his wall between bookshelves+other decorations

The shelf on my room is very small that's why I ran out of space quickly, I keep most of my books on a shelf at my parents house, with their books is basically a small library.
