if the bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, its that girls should stick to girl sports.

my heart is telling me so its like tremors??? tremors is about worms
First book is fairly straight forward for the overall plot and motivations. Empire bad. Bene Gesserit bad. Harkonnens fat (so in other words bad). Revenge good.
The bigger ideas it presents can kind of be ignored and you'd still get through it fine. Those pay off in the later books. The big one from the first novel being, maybe embracing a messiah persona to get what you want can really backfire on you, what with the galactic Jihad you later spawn that ends up killing hundreds of billions that you have no control over.
It gets even better as the main character spends the first book trying to straddle that divinity line and the next two books trying to undo it but then his son says frick that and instead goes all in and becomes a living God as a human/worm hybrid which sets the stage for the 4th book which is amazing.

What the frick does Duncan even do in the first book? I just remember him just kind of being 'there' as one of the Atreides squad but not really doing much of any import.
