Original Sims before EA had so much SOVL, 100 days in you would get a slideshow of Sims with bios for the whole Maxis team

What I wouldn't give for anarcho libertarianism game devs back. They just did whatever. The entire soundtrack is just piano music from one guy. There's so many easter eggs people didn't find some for years. Did you know that chrono trigger had more endings than anyone knew of until years later when some neurodivergents discovered them?

We'll never go back to a time where programmers would blogpost in the ROM about how incompetent the rest of their team was and shout out their cracker bros :marseysadge:

The Sims soundtrack was amazing.

It really is a shame that the sims series had to die slowly milked to death by EA instead of being owned by someone with passion for it.

Llamas were a recurring xD so random joke in all maxis titles at the time, this is just an extension of that.

Simcity 4 (unironically one of the greatest games of all time) had a city council with animated sprites so a police commissioner could chide you about the dindus being rowdy. There was a cheat code where you could replace all of the sprites with llamas so a 🦙 could tell you the sewers backed up and drowned 6,000 diverse persons in an ethnically enriched neighborhood

Fricking llamas lmao :marseyxd: :marseylaugh: it was all very funny in 2003

You DID do your required reading before playing right? Wait, did you just jump in intellectually and philosophically empty? I mean I knew you were conservative but yeesh, I didn't know you were like THAT. This is putting a whole new light on things…I don't know if I can be married to you any longer. :!marseyno:

Honestly replay a lot of old games with story or theming. I bet I would learn more.

John Romero in his recent autobiography briefly talks about how Wright used to cite works in all the Sim games and I remembered his gigantic the manuals for sim city 2k and such used to be. Game designers used to be actually educated people unlike todays media designers who are educated by video games themselves

Its like selling satire without knowing its satire

Reading The CRPG Addict blog (I know neighbor) impressed upon me that gaming will never be as interesting as it was doing the first couple of decades, when it was disproportionately ran by and for high functioning neurodivergent hobbyists

I remember the Doom 2 manual had whole paragraphs of vaguely philosophical musing on how demons are the perfect enemy because they feel no pain and have no inner life.

Is The Sims manual worth reading itself? Thinking of adding it to my Goodreads reading challenge. The Age of Empires 2 manual was great.

Absolutely patrician taste :marseybased:

I used to read that b-word just for fun, would learn about the middle ages while my parents were doing stuff :marseyreading:
