I read Heart of Darkness yesterday and I find it interesting how the Judge is basically Kurtz but even more superhuman. Kurtz was hyped up as a god amongst men but by the time Marlow actually meets him, he's on his deathbed. In contrast, the Judge comes out of nowhere and seems unstoppable. I wonder if the Judge insists on his immortality so much because he is deeply terrified of aging. He has far more to lose to senility than most.
