SpaceX' autonomous drone ship takes its name from "The Culture Series" of books

Just saw its name in some news article since the latest launch failed to land properly on SpaceX' drone "A Shortfall of Gravitas" which is basically a call to a bunch of Culture ships in the series with similar names.

Totally random, but I am guessing Elon is a fan or something. Good books btw.

Holy shit. I predict major drama from this. :marseywholesome:

For those not in the know: "The Culture" is essentially if reddit circa the 2000's was a galactic civilization :smugsnoo:

I always thought The Culture was supposed to be an allegory for America.

>It's okay, we can have a little genocide now and then for a treat. We're the good guys. Did you see how progressive we are about gender identity?

Never really thought about it as america or anything, more just a general "the greater good" type dealio. I mean it espouses progressivism/lefty-stuff, but with essentially magical amounts of power to solve the issues that come up because of it's policies. I think it was a pretty fair treatment of what it would take to make a society like that work.
