I frankly didn't know any of this, though I also have never read anything of his.

All I know is that Updike referred to three New Yorker AL writers as 'The Three Johns': himself, Cheever, and this guy. I kinda assumed that that and his inclusion on the ModLib list meant he was a big boy. Guess not.

I'll read Appointment in Samara this year and see if he really was just a little guy.
