I get that it's a series but come on, what the frick was that ending?? Give me something you peepeesucker. It can be vague, it can build mystery for the next book, but give me something.

Death to series books. Yes I'm mad. :marseyraging:

I fricking love the Hyperion Cantos. Some of the most original and interesting science fiction ever written imo. And it never gets stale, each book introduces entirely new and interesting concepts.

People online are saying books 1-2 and 3-4 are pretty separate. Can you get a good ending from the second book?

There is plenty of closure at the end of 2, such that 3 opens centuries later in a much-changed setting. Some dislike 3+4, I think they're alright, but definitely not as good as the first two.

The issue here is I don't think this story needs 500 more pages, I think it needs 20. I wasn't asking for some kind of explanation of what the Shrike is and how it all fits together. The stories are about death, time, meaning. I'd almost be insulted if it wasn't messy. I just wanted to see the final confrontation with the sublime that the story has been teasing since the beginning. Give it a few vague pages with interesting symbols and connotations, and an ambiguous ending, and let the reader figure it out.

I will likely read the second book, but I don't think the first is complete as written.
