I will always laugh at how they all get genocided in the epilogue. It's the one thing I know about AoT because my friends were seething when it ended and just went on endless rants about how much they were malding over it.

Tbh I don't understand why everyone is so mad about the manga ending. Eren was always a little b-word masquerading as a tough guy, Armin and Mikasa have pretty much always been set up as his conscience who stop him when he goes too far, and him dying at their hands after successfully genociding most of the world seems totally reasonable as a conclusion.

i hate to sound like a literary analysis strag but i'm going to be a literary analysis strag: the whole thesis of the story is that the world doesn't care about you, even if you're right or good or whatever the frick. you can have done everything right and just get domed. that the manga fandom literally lost its mind at their friends not genociding literally the entire world and then paying the price for doing the morally right thing and stopping it (you know, what very well may happen in such a situation) shows how smart that fandom is.

weebs get the rope. happy to be a colonizer who read one manga cause it was interesting. i hope their communities fall apart

Thaaaaaank you, I've been saying forever that anyone who hated the end was just too r-slurred to pick up on the basic themes of the story. Literary analysis is dying and the fact that you feel bad for doing/enjoying it is a deeply sad comment on our culture.

If we get an anime-exclusive ending I'll lose all respect for Isayama so fast. Frick the fans, just tell a good story.

I wonder if the anime will just have an overlay of all the speeches that shoved it down your throat in the first season ("the world is cruel but very beautiful") or have its own speech from armin or mikasa or whatever to tell the r-slurred fans of the point of the story

From the very beginning of the story it is made clear that peace was never an option, that no matter how hard anyone tried, no matter how many people dedicated their lives to the cause of peace, nothing could change the fact that there was 2,000 years of genocidal history their ancestors are responsible for that the world will never forgive nor forget. And unlike the conflicts between the people of the walls, the world will not stop until every single Eldian is annihilated. They could either accept the sins of their father and attempt reconciliation via their own annihilation, or they refuse to right their wrongs and destroy the world - the most "monstrous" and "inhuman" act - so that they and their descendants could live happy and free lives.

The main characters understood this. Every character knew this, up until after chapter 121 where even Eren suddenly forgot out of nowhere. And it's pretty obvious that either Isayama was forced to change his ending, or he has some weird gimmick planned to reveal his "true" ending, which is possible considering his biggest inspiration - Muv Luv - operated on this very same gimmick.
