He was cute, but the recent TikTok trend of finding a kitten with the most fricked up health problems to farm likes until the little thing inevitably dies kinda puts me off. Didn't know this specific fella was this popular to show up here though, it was usually my foid sending me tiktoks of it that made me aware of the entire disabled-kitten-videos industrial complex.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people were crippling kittens to farm likes, then around 6 months got rid of them with an โœจunexpected heart attackโœจwhen they are no longer that cute and bring views, then move on to the next kitten called pocket pumpkin or something and rinse&repeat.

Being a ruralcel and knowing enough people who keep barn cats on their property, I can say that after enough litters of kittens you're bound to see a few that are disadvantaged or just weird right out of the gate. I've seen a couple with swimmer's syndrome (where their hind legs splay outward and they can't walk properly), multiple cats with extra toes on their paws, and one that was born missing a hind leg entirely. Those are just the more obvious issues, one of which isn't really life-hindering. The occasional runts of the litter likely had their own problems but died before they became too obvious (again, ruralcel, people aren't going to save the life of every last barn cat).

And that's just barn cats who at might get a minimum amount of healthcare. Ferals are going to be a lot less healthy overall.

The things people do to pets out here. I know that it's done in cities too but people here just toss animals out the window on the highway. My friend had to shield his niece from seeing it after someone threw a kitten out on the highway. like wtf take it to a shelter ffs

I know some people can be fricked up, I once found a dead kitten that had all four paws torn/sawed/idk off and a large nail pierced through its body to a piece of plank a few years ago, just next to a tesco parking tossed behind the bushes while trying to take a piss. It was 8-10 week old, probably adopted just to get tortured(?).

Proper psychopath stuff who will probably kill in the future too, some people are NOT okay.

I once adopted a kitten from my sister's friend because he was going to shoot it otherwise. It ended up not working out due to my other cat having a shitfit. I didn't want to deal with acclimating her to a new animal and I was more concerned with saving that kitten from a worse fate, so I ended up giving the kitten to the local shelter. I'm pretty sure found a home within a week, which was good.

I want to adopt a 5+ year old dog because puppies and kittens have no problems getting adopted. I almost took in a 1.5 year old chocolate lab but people here also lie about everything to get rid of their pets. This one was supposedly good with kids and dogs, which was perfect for me but it was also still a bit of a puppy so it would be adopted in no time. I would like to get an older dog, but the only thing available here is pit bulls and I'm just too afraid of them. I have a niece and a 7 month old Corgi to think about.
