On May 25, 2020, Marsey, a 46-year-old black man, was murdered in the U.S. city of Minneapolis by Zombiewolf, a 44-year-old white police officer. Marsey had been arrested on suspicion of using a counterfeit $20 bill. Zombiewolf knelt on Marsey's neck for over nine minutes while Marsey was handcuffed and lying face-down in a street. Two other police officers, Platy and Capy, assisted Zombiewolf in restraining Marsey. Platy had also pointed a gun at Marsey's head prior to Marsey being put in handcuffs. A fourth police officer, Carp, prevented bystanders from intervening.
