I've heard this a lot and I'm sure it varies but I've rooted every smartphone I've had my entire life including the real bootleg methods like kingroot back in the day and every banking app has worked for me FWIW
@butthole this is both Canada & US. TD, Amex, RBC, Capital One, Wealth Simple/Front I've never had an issue
These days I use magisk to root and the only thing that gives me shit is Google Pay, but you can just install a magisk module that gets around that. If you are able to install magisk the modules are trivial in comparison

Using a pixel 6 currently. I had different Redmi Notes before with different ROMs like pixel experience and lineage. Magisk has an option to turn on a mode that hides root from specific apps but I haven't actually needed it for any banking apps strangely enough
Honestly the only thing I've never been able to get around root detection for is Pokemon Go lol
