I hate to sound like Salv but are we really going to be pushing this shit. 6 gorillion dead Russians died dead for Bakhmut or whatever?

https://i.rdrama.net/images/1740460973SOtAEtK8qFxbHQ.webp

Independent sources who only work on finding Russian KIA/MIA's have compiled an estimated 90k deaths, with an estimated 160k total deaths. Ukrainian estimates have been only slightly lower, at 70k and 125k for the respective states. Casualties are higher obviously, but not 700k lol. Both have about a 1.3:1 ratio, which is actually really good considering Russia's been on the constant bite and hold offensive since mid 2023, likely due to their artillery advantage (which is the real x-factor in conflicts since ww1).

You're telling me the country that imported North Koreans to recover lost territory in Kursk is winning the causality ratio?

The North Koreans are absolute fricking psychos but yeah, if you're relying on them, you're doing something wrong.

Makes sense. They already loan out Korean slave construction labor to African shitholes in exchange for food. Mercenary combat isn't much different.

Wait, the claim was that Russia requested them? who tf would ever believe that?

I figured from the start that it was primarily so the NK troops could get some combat experience, with a side of showing support for Putin as well as trying to show that NK was capable of having an impact on international affairs outside their immediate neighborhood.

which is actually really good

:surejan: lol this 3 day special military operation has dragged on for so long people forget russia was supposed to be the 2nd most powerful military power in the world capable of reaching the rhine in 7 days. How you could think of this war as anything other than a massive disaster for russia, let alone going really good, is beyond me. Literally african war level death tolls against a corrupt shithole that even the west didn't think stood a chance since they offered Zelensky a plane ride out.

Russia only lost one flagship and Moskow was only bombed once during this 3 year day military operation that is entirely on land! This is great!

:mars#eyfine:

Nevermind foreign relations; Euope is all pissed off, Syria is all pissed ofcause the Russian support just disappeared, and they can't defend their allies, BRICS is a joke, etc...

It does sound a little high tbh but it's Russia we're talking about here. As General Ripper said, your hardcore commie has no regard for human life, not even his own.

(And I get that a little more from Kim from Cambodia than my dad, tyvm. :marseysmughips:)

I could do a much longer write up on why this war is the way it is (I've been paying close attention to it because of how fricking sad it makes me due to my connection to the region) but the short of it is that the extremely transparent battlefield combined with highly accurate responses make concentrated attacks that have the initiative basically impossible and the number of people required to hold x amount of the frontline is smaller than ever. This is especially true for cities, which are basically fortresses at this point. This is especially especially true in a Ukraine-Russian conflict where both sides have some of the highest levels of AD in the world (Ukraine had AD than the rest of Europe (excluding Russia ofc) combined, and Russia is obviously Russia. (Ukraine generally received the largest proportional stockpile of Soviet military stuff because a lot of it was made in Ukraine, though they scrapped a lot higher percentage of stuff compared to Russia because they're poor they still had massive stockpiles)) What Russia has started to aim for is a bite and hold strategy where Russia does many small attacks repeatedly for years at a time. This comes after heavy bombing of enemy positions. When they reach urban centers of any density you can see the slow down (provided Ukraine's manpower in that specific sector isn't too low (a whole other discussion)) as they either go around and cut off supplies before attacking or just levelling it. What results is very small casualties as a result of the low manpower needed on the front (in comparison to the rear or industries).

We also have a bias because Ukraine has supplemented artillery with drones who we get footage from. By their own accounts artillery is far superior to attack drones, but they lack the industry to truly invest in it, and as a result retooling consumer drones is far easier for them. They then post this footage online which they use to fund themselves (the best drone groups seldom post their footage, as they actually get funding from the state). However, less than <10% of drone attacks do anything especially as they haven't adapted to EW like the Russians have with fiber optic wire controlled drones. Though we may see zigs die a whole lot more than ooks, it's likely a primarily result of methods, not actual numbers.

What Russia has started to aim for is a bite and hold strategy

Which is smart. If they keep doing it then eventually they will win. It's inevitable. In 2025 you're not gonna get away with trying blitzkrieg but you can be sure of grinding down the enemy.

By their own accounts artillery is far superior to drones

One of the most disturbing things I've read about war is a kraut in WW2 in Normandy who said the worst part of the war wasn't getting bombed by planes. It was the little Cessna observation planes that would fly around and radio to the artillery to shoot if they even saw one guy. So you couldn't go out of your foxhole to take a shit without getting shelled in about 15 seconds. I imagine it's gotta be like that now with drones.

Everything in this war is being recorded and monitored constantly. Recently there a rather gruesome pov footage of a knife fight between a Yakut and a veteran Ukrainian soldier that got published (probably the most convincing proof of why knife fights fricking suck and knives are a bad self defense weapon). Within days multiple other perspectives from drones flying around it got published as well. If there's movement on the battlefield there's probably a drone watching it.
