We need to talk about fake Reddit posts :marseypepe2:

Over the last several years /r/AmItheAsshole has grown to be one of the most popular subreddits. Not only is it hugely popular on Reddit but it gets attention on other social media that I think is unprecedented for Reddit. It has also led to some spin-off subreddits. Because of their popularity every post you see now is written with the hope of making it to a YouTube compilation. They also get shared here :platytired:

Everything you see from the following subreddits are fake posts:

  • /r/AmItheAsshole - The preeminent source of fake Reddit posts. /r/relationship_advice walked so /r/AITA could run

  • /r/AITAH - spinoff that allows "hypothetical" stories, i.e. stuff that even the sophisticated readers of /r/AITA would call out

  • /r/offmychest - shocking, confessional style creative writing. You might find a sincere post by some lonely, desperate person buried in there but anything doing numbers is fake

  • /r/trueoffmychest - trashier version of above, ironically less true. It is to /r/offmychest what /r/AITAH is to /r/AITA

  • /r/TwoHotTakes - from what I understand Two Hot Takes is a podcast that does readings of AITA posts. idk, I've never listened to it and everything I read about it makes me hate the free market. But the subreddit is now mostly lurid AITA style posts, written for the kind of people who are willing to support this content on Patreon

  • /r/BestofRedditorUpdates - A anthology of authors who rival Peepeeens. Sweeping sagas with regular updates (very kind of OP to keep thousands of online strangers abreast of the situation while their life falls apart btw!). I may be wrong but I think this one goes back to when subreddits like /r/relationship_advice, /r/pettyrevenge, /r/JUSTNOMIL were the leading the field in fictional outrage bait but it is having a renaissance with /r/AITA and company. You will also find stories from smaller subreddits sprinkled in.

I'm not saying nothing from these subreddits is worth posting- the comments of dumb Redditors are often worth laughing at. But if you see anything posted from these subs and think "ha ha that OP is crazy".... :marseyoctopus2:
