He doesnt have a brokerage account. He didnt know the brokerage reports dividends to the irs so he has probably never gotten a 1099
But even a savings account will generate a 1099-INT
Interest on that is like 1 dollar so if hes leaving that off his taxes nothing will happen
My interest rate last year was more like 4%, I think you're supposed to report interest earnings over $10 which would be $250 in savings, I don't know the actual threshold tho bc I'm way above it anyways.
