In all likelihood I make much more than you do. Maybe if you gave us the actual title of your job it would be easier to pinpoint what your likely salary is but I guess we'll never know.
I think he's rich enough to retire provided he doesn't blow it all buying a bunch of expensive cars (only time will tell). My guess is he's got at least $2-3 million in index funds or something.
And btw, if you have $900,000 in your bank account you could just put them in high-dividend ETFs and live off of that without having to work anymore, so why haven't you? That's the point where a lot of people just decide to do side jobs or start their own business instead.

You have vagueposted about your job but never said the actual title. He's got an average-sized house while you live in a small apartment sustaining yourself on discount meat. Not really sure you can accuse others of living like plebs.
$900,000 in high-dividend yields with an annual dividend of 4% (many are actually higher than this) works out to something like $3,000 a month. It is absolutely doable with your lifestyle, especially if you supplement it with a side hustle.
