Canada is never in a position to go to war. Until we do. Then we build up a military machine that punches above it's weight, and immediately discard it.

They are acts of war. Canada does not generally declare war, we go when others go (Afghanistan in 01/02 for example) or when the commonwealth calls for us (World Wars for example). Otherwise we generally enter conflicts as peacekeepers or support. We do not have a military ready to fight on a dime.

That said, when we do go to war we provide some fierce, effective soldiers in addition to nightmare-inducing special forces. There's also the running (somewhat true) joke that we consider the Geneva Conventions to be a checklist. Canadians have been known historically to do fricked up things to bad people so.

The military machine Canada builds up is never capable of any force projection though, it can punch above it's weight because they're always a small part of a larger alliance that takes care of logistics for them. What's Canada supposed to do to Iran if NATO doesn't want a war with Iran?
