I think department stores are just hard for some reason. Only Wally World has it figured out. Gotta really lean mostly on groceries to get regular customers, the other stuff just purchased for convenience/impulse. Few go to Target for groceries. And if you don't focus on groceries it becomes harder to stock fresh groceries which makes even fewer go there for groceries. Groceries are king! @pizzashill discuss
You probably also have to fight the r-slurred bean counters who notice that groceries are low margin and have all these great ideas to make line go up for a quarter.
