Snowden never said "I don't want to live in a country with surveillance" he's said multiple fricking times he considers the US home and wouldn't rather be anywhere else. He just ended up stuck in Russia because the US retaliated against him and blocked his ability to travel. Redditors deserve to be shot.

If he liked America so much maybe he shouldn’t have betrayed it and sold out to its enemies.

Who gives a frick about some gay oath? He broke espionage laws, compromised national security, and fled to an enemy nation where it’s safe to assume he bought passage by further selling out his country.

The oath reads “I will defend the constitution against enemies foreign and domestic.” He was meant to defend America against both, not just his perceived domestic enemies.
But I don’t really care about the wording of the oath or office because while it’s true that a country is partially defined by its principles, a country is nothing without its people. Snowden’s actions have made it easier for America’s enemies to bomb the frick out of American people at home and abroad.
Snowden has weakened America and endangered American people, and has almost certainly spent the last half decade opening every crease in America’s arsehole to his buddies at the Kremlin. Indeed, Comrade Snowden’s loyalty has been rewarded with citizenship, at the cost of how many American (and allied) lives, I wonder.

Maybe they shouldn't have illegally spied on americans then? Funny how the guy who pointed it out is at fault, and not the ones who did it.

Oh they’re bastards too, but there’s too many of them to regard as anything but a nebulous mass. I far prefer to sneed at a punchable face.

Spooks signed up for that. If the cost of freedom is a few dead glowies thats a great trade. Its the fault of the American people that they made no great reforms after his revelations. He created an opportunity and you decided to blow the intelligence agencies instead, sad!

It is crazy how the world - after the initial incredulity at the sheer size of the leak - kinda shrugged its collective shoulders over the whole thing.
I think there was a lack of public pressure because (1) it was difficult for normal folks to understand with far too many difficult concepts and big words, and (2) everyone had already assumed governments are spying on everything they do anyway, so Snowden just confirmed what they thought they already knew.
