This is an opinion piece by someone who supposedly “outs” people who falsely claim Native standing. She’s also said that our current Secretary of Interior (Deb Harland) isn’t native…yet she is. So her credibility is pretty low. “Ms. Haaland, 60, was born in Winslow, Ariz., to Mary Toya, a Laguna woman, and John David Haaland, a Minnesotan of Norwegian descent. Both parents served in the Navy…her ancestral home is in the Laguna Pueblo village of Mesita, population 800, and for 25 years, her mother worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.”

She might not have been Apache, but Mexicans are part native American. We just don't tend to label central American groups like the Aztecs this way for some reason.

This is so clearly racist bullshit it’s hard to stomach it. I have no idea why having Mexican heritage would prevent someone from having Native American heritage. They literally border each other now, and in the past there were no such borders anyhow.

The Chronicle article said Littlefeather was born Marie Louise Cruz to a mother who had white heritage and Mexican on her father’s side. " The sisters claim that their goal in coming forward is to restore their father's good name, saying he "never drank” and was not mentally ill, refuting her sister’s claims.
Littlefeather wore traditional clothing at the 1973 Oscars ceremony, making a statement about Hollywood's treatment of Native Americans.
