What you won't hear from Vice is that labor unions in South Korea are extremely radical and violent. This developed during the era when the right-wing fascist dictators would imprison and torture them for allegedly working for North Korea because... well... because they actually really were working for North Korea. And they still in 2022 are like "well we don't agree with everything North Korea does but...
" If you're some normie who only knows Korea from Squid Game and shit like that, let me tell you, there is a lot of disturbing stuff that they keep within the family that they don't export to the rest of the world.
Also they're legit living in the cyberpunk future so this is probably some other massive conglomerate running an information op against them, hiring protestors. It's happened before. Just buy the cake-uh. Listen to Kim Taehee.

The generation that was born after the war and was becoming adults around the 1970s-1980s had lot of commie sympathizers. Actually wanting to spy for North Korea and hoping they would invade and stuff was still very much a fringe attitude, but there was a large element who believed that the North Koreans couldn't really be that bad and that somehow America was just as much to blame for their problems. Like so much in politics, I think it was driven largely by edgy teens wanting to rebel against their parents and this becoming their political identity since ~95% of people who lived during the war absolutely hate communism.
