The plains nations are usually well known as having constant and brutal war, which is true to an extent. They did war often to settle land disputes but pre-European invasion there weren’t guns which made warfare a LOT less deadly. In other parts of the country especially, the concept of war was very different from that of the other side of the world.

Warring was almost like a sporting event, and sometimes battles would be “fought” with a game of lacrosse. Not saying the game wasn’t aggressive, but rarely did people die. In the relative north east area, the nations around there specifically would stop any kind of a battle if someone was gravely injured or a death occurred. The point of war wasn’t to slaughter and enslave each other, it was most often to settle who gets what hunting grounds this year and things of that nature.

Obviously a lot changed once Europe invaded, when they started giving guns out war changed drastically. You really couldn’t have a battle without extreme casualties and often getting hit with a bullet meant death.

As far as genocide goes, I don’t know of any North American indigenous nation that took place in that. Mostly around here was “adoption” should a village or town of a nation be taken in by another. It depended on the nation that adopted them, but often after the newly adopted peoples would just become part of that nation. Rarely treated less than or any different than a “natural born” or whatever you’d want to call it.

This is some quality cope. "War was like a sporting event where nobody got hurt, and when one tribe conquered another it was just kind of a casual 'adoption."
